Cal Poly volleyball All-American Maia Dvoracek suffered a serious knee injury in the spring of 2021. She wanted to stay connected to the team and the sport so she did sportscasting for their home games and created a blog to share her journey and recovery with others.

Elan Valdez-Kaminsky taught himself to bake during COVID. Now he freelances as a baker for Kin Coffee Bar and Bread Bike, all while finishing up his degree.
Carter Nix played on the winning team in the U.S. Open Women’s Handicap Polo Championship on Nov. 12-14 at Houston Polo Club in Houston, Texas, beating 11 teams from around the world. Now that she is back on campus, she encourages any interested student to get involved. “Anyone can join, literally whenever. We always need more help around here,” Nix said. “The more hands we have, the less work.”
Psychology freshman Tristan Linker took a more drastic approach: he shaved it off completely. In an attempt to “reinvent himself,” he took away what he felt was his best feature. “It allowed me to focus less on my appearance and more on what makes me happy. It has eliminated a lot of stress from my life,” Linker said.
